About us

The Bharatiya Dalit Sahitya Akademi was founded in 1984 by the then Dy. Prime Minister Babu Jagjiwan Ram for fulfilling the unaccomplished dream of Baba Sahab Dr. B. R. Ambedkar to eleviate Dalits darkness of injustice, inequality and inhuman treatment.and its sole responsibility was given to Dr. S. P. Sumanakshar as the founder president.

The Akademi has dovetailed its activities in every corner of the country during the last 28 years after its establishment. In 35 states, the Branches are working with a net work spreaded from state to Districts to tehsils to blocklevel Upto the grass-root, having about five lacs constructive & active thinkers, social workers, writers, scholars, journalists, historians, who are engaged in spreading the awakening among Dalit masses, weaker sections and oppressed people of the country through Dalit Literature and Public meeting, conferences, Symposiums, Seminars, Rallies, Sports & Writing Competitions, Exhibitions. Dr. Ambedkar Study circles, Library & Reading Rooms, Youth Guide Centers, Street Plays, Dramas, Discussions & Debates etc. About 30 Thousands such programmes have been organized by the different branches of the Akademi. These programmes have been effected the Dalit-Society and a new awakening is dawning among them against the atrocities, injustice, harassment, inequality and thus directed them to struggle, to achieve their rights as enshrined in the Constitution of India.

The Akademi, which is basically a non-political institution, has planned to handle the Dalit awakening Movement in a scientific way by providing guidance to writers, poets, dramatists, journalists, novelists, story writers, Literateurs, social workers etc. through media of work shop, seminars, conferences and meetings by exchanging views, holding discussion, getting writing research papers etc. and recognition and identity. and honouring them by the various awards in the name of Dr. Ambedkar, Mahatma Jotiba Fule & Bhagwan Buddha.

Organisation

The Akademi has a democratic set-up for fulfilling its aims and objects at national level such as:-

  1. National Executive Committee.
  2. National Advisory Council.
  3. National Academic Council.
  4. Dr Ambedkar National Award Committee.

Beside, it has the following five wings to solve the various problems of victimization.

  1. Dr. Ambedkar Women's Wing.
  2. Dr. Ambedkar Doctor's Wing.
  3. Dr. Ambedkar Lawyer's Wing.
  4. Dr. Ambedkar Teacher's Wing.
  5. Dr. Ambedkar Journalist's Wing.

The different state branches of the Akademi Upto the Tehsil – Block level are engaged for the achievements of the following objects:-

  1. To eliminate the complex from the Dalits.
  2. To bring about the public awakening among Dalits.
  3. To provide the knowledge to Dalits about their rights.
  4. To train the Dalits in order to fight against atrocities, untouchability, inequality and injustice and inhuman treatment.
  5. To make realize the upper –caste people also against their unequal attitude and inhuman behaviour towards Dalits.
  6. To work for the change in the society.
  7. To fulfill the welfare dreams of Baba Sahab Dr. B. R. Ambedkar.

To achieve the above goal, various Branches of the Akademi are running the following programmes:-

  1. To celebrate the Jayanties of the great personalities and Saints of Dalit Society.
  2. To propagate their teachings.
  3. To open Dr. Ambedkar Libraries.
  4. To open Dr. Ambedkar Coaching Centres.
  5. To open Dr. Ambedkar Ashram Schools.
  6. To establish Dr. Ambedkar Youth Guide Centres.
  7. To open Centres for guidance to Guide the writers, journalists and social workers.
  8. To Confer Awards Upto the scholars, historians, journalists & social workers for their outstanding works by Honouring them by Dr. Ambedkar Awards & Dr. Ambedkar Fellowships Awards etc.
  9. To guide and initiate research on Dalit History, Dalit Arts and Dalit Heritage.
  10. To publish Dalit-Literature, books journals, brochures, research papers, newspaper etc.

AIMS AND OBJECTS OF THE AKADEMI

  1. To get create or get created and publish Literature for the upliftment of Oppressed, Shelterless and poor sections of the society popularly known as Dalits.
  2. To proved mental awareness through the media of Literature and to raise the standard of life of the depressed, Oppressed and poor people socially, economically, educationally, politically, psychologically etc.
  3. To raise the voice against the exploitation of depressed Society for injustice, inequality, orthodoxy, apartheid, ignorance and in human behaviour outside and within India to struggle for their rights.
  4. To organise Literatures, journalists, writers, editors and intellectuals who are the sympathizers of Dalits, exploited, depressed, victimised and backward people and provide them the guideline regarding human equality and justice.
  5. To plan and organise conferences, meeting or seminars at Distt. , State National as well as International level in respect of Dalits affairs.
  6. To honour and confer awards to the Litterateurs, Social Workers, Artists, Journalists and Writers of high value in their value in their respective field of upliftment of Dalits confer and to accord Fellowships upon them.
  7. To invest money for the achievement of the aims and objects of the Akademi and to publish books. Journals/papers etc.
  8. To establish institutions for the distribution of Dalit literature, sale Centers and to publicise the issues of the Akademi at the relevant media.
  9. To give publicity to humanism, equality and social justice through a monthly, quarterly or daily news papers of the Akademi at the national or state level.
  10. To provide affiliation and recognition to social institutions engaged in the welfare of Dalits.
  11. To organise film show and recognition to social institution engaged in the welfare of Dalits.
  12. To open Libraries, reading rooms, educational institutions etc.
  13. To collect money for the achievement of the aims and objects of the Akademi and seek financial aid from the Government.
  14. To work for the development of India languages and bringing them closer to each other by promoting the Literature and culture thereof either way.
  15. To publish the translation of original texts of standard works in other languages of India and also to open Training centres for imparting education in Indian and Foreign Languages.
  16. To encourage and honour the International writers, Poets Literatures, Artists and Social workers on the advice of the president of Akademi of that particular country.
  17. To give and receive donations in case of need to and from any branches of the Akademi inside and outside the country for the welfare of Dalits.
  18. To create good understanding and relationship within the Literatures, Intellectuals, Men of Letters and Artists through the Media of cultural exchange and also to establish aid and advice the branches of this society inside and outside India where necessary, keeping in view the Interest of weaker sections of human community in world.

The B.D.S.A. has Uptill Now Conferred 270 Dr. Ambedkar National Awards. 540 Dr. Ambedkar Distinguished Services Awards and 12000 Dr. Ambedkar Fellowship Awards and 200 other glorious different awards to the prominent scholars, writers, social workers, journalists etc. in recognition of their services in their respective fields.

B D S A Parliament

The Akademi has Constituted 4 Parliaments to consider the various National Problems Regarding Religion, History, Media and politics of downtrodden society as under:

  1. Dalit Dharm-Sansad (Dalit Religious Parliament )
  2. Dalit Itihaskar Sansad ( Dalit Historians Parliament )
  3. Dalit Sampadak Sansad ( Dalit Editors Parliament )
  4. Dalit Rajnaitik Sansad ( Dalit Politicians Parliament )
  5. Dalit Writers Sansad ( Dalit Writer Parliament )
